You Are A Masterpiece
What is a masterpiece? According to one
definition, it is a work done with extraordinary skill. Ephesians 2:10 says that
we are God’s masterpiece (NLT). Psalm 139 says that He knit us, every intimate
detail of who we are, while we were in our mother’s womb. He considers us His
marvelous workmanship.
I know that many of you have read or
heard those scriptures at one time or another. But how many of you have ever
actually allowed those words to process in your mind long enough to begin to
think of yourself as an actual
masterpiece? Yes, you. Look in the mirror. That person staring back at you is
God’s wonderful masterpiece.
When I think of a masterpiece I think of
a valuable piece of art. It’s a one-of-a-kind painting that is usually worth a lot
of money. In fact, the owners of these wonderful pieces of art spend quite the
money on protecting their investment. I tend to think of the movies with all
the lasers which surround the expensive display. If the laser detects any
movement, it will set the alarm. Sometimes, even the floor in the room holding
the art has sensors that detect any extra weight. Some of these systems even
detect temperature change in the room or vault where these pieces of art are
sometimes stored or kept. I am always fascinated in watching how much effort
and planning the thieves go through in order to steal the artwork. They spend
so much time on every single detail. Sometimes, they go through as much effort
as duplicating a practice scenario and going through it over and over again until
they get a satisfactory result and feel confident enough to repeat it in the
real-life scenario.
I say all this to remind you how much
God loves you and how much He cares for you. He cares about the things that you
strongly desire. You are His masterpiece and His beautiful workmanship. God
knows that there is a god of this world who is roaming around imitating His
holiness with evil pleasures, disguised to feel good and to look good on the
outside. Therefore, God, being our wonderful Creator, built into each one of us
our own security system to help us detect any attempted burglary. He sent His
only Son Jesus, to conquer death. On the Cross death was defeated. The Cross
represents our freedom and our victory! As if allowing Jesus to die for our
sins was not enough to represent how much He loves us, God took it a step
further. Jesus resurrected and ascended into Heaven on the third day in order
to leave each one of us with our own personal Helper who would help us overcome
the weaknesses of our flesh—the Holy Spirit living inside each one of us.
John 14:12 says: “Truly, truly, I say to
you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works
than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.” (ESV)
If you’ve been longingly questioning
what is your purpose… If you’ve been wondering if there is more to life than what
you’re currently experiencing… If you have ever felt as though you are not good
enough, not smart enough, unworthy of being loved… If you have simply been
existing in life but not really living a life….
This Scripture tells you what your
purpose is—to do even greater works than JESUS!!!! What?! HOW? The Scripture
says it clearly—anyone who believes in me. These words were spoken by Jesus Himself. Jesus is not a
liar. He is the only perfect human to ever exist, the only perfect human who
will ever exist. We are God’s masterpiece because we are meant to do the works
of Jesus, in a greater capacity. We have the Holy Spirit power in us that is
our very own priceless security system! This Holy Spirit helps us to sense
danger. The Holy Spirit opens our eyes to see things through the eyes of God.
He opens up our hearts to have unending love, empathy and compassion on others.
Why is this important? If Jesus didn’t
have love or compassion for others, he would not have cared to teach them about
God’s truths. He would not have cared to heal them of their sicknesses. He
would not have cared to provide the woman at the well, who was caught up in
huge sin, with an unending supply of living water. He would not have cared to
teach his own disciples to increase their faith and trust in Him.
John 10:10 ESV says “The thief comes
only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it
abundantly.”
God invested so much to protect us from
the thief of this world. The Holy Spirit is our source of power. The Holy
Spirit is our compass and our guide. The Holy Spirit equips us with supernatural
capabilities that allow us to be made aware when we should turn off that movie,
or change the song, or to stop going to places you used to frequent as someone
who was living according to the world. If you are living for Christ, you should
definitely look different than the old version of you, before you gave your
life to the Lord. Your walk with God should not merely be defined by the
scriptures that you can quote or post on social media. Your walk with the LORD
should be evident in how you live your life. Do you genuinely love people? Do
you care about them, as a child of our King, or are you so focused on their
sin?
The reason I say this is because though
we are indeed a masterpiece to our King and Creator, God never intended to keep
us locked up in a room or in a safe, isolating us from the rest of the world.
Our alarm system is so unique and so one-of-a-kind that it surrounds us everywhere
that we go, as soon as we activate it. And activating your supernatural alarm system
is as easy as saying these three words: Holy Spirit come.
Ephesians 6:10-20 goes on to talk about
the full armor of God that we should put on daily! And guess what? When you
activate your alarm system, at the start of each day, that security system will
prompt you to do all of those things. Our amazing security system will lovingly
remind us to fasten our belt of truth and to put on our breastplate of
righteousness. The Holy Spirit reminds us that our shield of FAITH can and WILL
extinguish all the flaming arrows from the enemy! We will be prompted to put on
the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit. Finally, we will be guided
to pray without ceasing! All of this is extremely important and should not be
taken lightly because there is a thief out there who is putting in a whole lot
of effort into plotting and scheming and looking for a way to come in and steal
God’s masterpiece.
Heavenly Father, thank you for creating us as your beautiful workmanship and that you value us as a one-of-a-kind masterpiece! I thank you for our built-in security system which you so graciously provided us with! Father, today I pray for every person reading this blog who has had a difficult time in seeing him/herself as your precious son or daughter. Father, I pray that you will meet them right where they are and reveal yourself to them. Father, show them your love, your mercy and your compassion. Help them to see from your eyes how you see them. Father, I pray that as they continue to seek more of your presence through worship and prayer, that their faith and trust in you will be multiplied! I pray that you will begin to reveal their purpose to each one of them. Father, I thank you for the blood of the Lamb. I thank you for your perfect love that casts out all fear. Thank you. I love you. In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
